Hotel chain Hilton is opening three new hotels in Portugal, Expresso reported on Sunday.
Hilton is opening hotels in Cascais, a popular beach town near Lisbon, in the Azores islands and in the northern city of Porto, with investment totalling €80 million, according to Expresso. The hotel chain plans on starting its new developments next year.
“This year has presented unique challenges, but we know that there is a pending demand for travel, and that is why we are reinforcing our commitment to Portugal by announcing three new hotels,” said Simon Vincent, Hilton group president for Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Vincent also highlighted his “enormous belief in Portugal’s potential as a growing travel destination”.
Portugal’s tourism sector has been devastated by COVID-19, with the number of overnight stays dropping drastically, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE).
