IPMA weather forecasters predict three weeks of high temperatures
Temperatures in the Algarve are due to start rising from tomorrow (Tuesday), with a peak reaching up to 40ºC in some areas expected on Friday.
Talking to SIC Notícias, IPMA forecaster Patrícia Gomes explains that the warming weather comes as a result of a ‘northern current’ carrying humid air, meaning even if temperatures along the coast remain in the low- to mid-30s, the feeling with be higher, as the air will not be ‘dry’.
That said, the hottest places are expected to be in the interior Alentejo (areas like Évora, Beja, Portalegre) and then the interior Algarve.
Coastal Algarve will still be hot – more in line with ‘normal temperatures for this time of year’ – after weeks in which the summer has been ‘slow to make a start’.
