The increase in pensions decided by the outgoing government for 2024 is costing the State more than €10 million per day. This is counting only with the universe of pensioners inscribed in the system as of January The increase applies to almost all pensions (except those paying out over €6,000 per month). Meantime, child benefit payments have also ‘skyrocketed’ since the start of the year, with the State paying an extra 60.2% in January (another €41 million) in comparison with payments made in January 2023.
