Energy minister Jorge Moreira e Silva – receiving flak following his announcement last week that the government hoped to save fuel by encouraging public sector workers to ride bicycles – has now revealed that thanks to the January increase in taxes on petrol and diesel state coffers have raked in a further €100 million. The boost is also due to an increase in consumption, he claimed.
