At least 19 people were killed and 15 injured in two suicide bomb attacks on a military check-point in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad earlier this week, on the first anniversary of the capture of Saddam Hussein. Iraqi’s interim president has blamed the dismantling of the army for some of the current problems facing his country.
The first incident happened after a bomber blew up his car as he waited to be searched at a military checkpoint used by contractors and Iraqis to enter the government and diplomatic compound known as the Green Zone. The second bomb a day later exploded 200 metres from the same checkpoint. Hospital sources said that all the dead were Iraqi civilians.
