Portugal’s government has said today that it “greatly laments” the death of a Portuguese-Israeli dual national held hostage in Gaza since the Hamas attack on Israel seven months ago, but that it has no access to information about the circumstances because the victim has “to all intents and purposes” been treated as an Israeli. It is not clear from the social media post by the Israeli government how, or even when, Dror Or, 49, died (albeit comments reacting to the post suggest he died in bombing perpetrated by Israeli Defence Forces). Two of Mr Or’s children were also taken hostage on October 7, but they were released in November. Their mother, Mr Or’s wife, was killed in the bloodbath of Kibbutz Be’eri where the family lived.
