Guia serves slices of a giant Folar every year on Easter Sunday
Thousands of people are expected for the 20th edition of ‘Prova do Folar da Guia’ (Tasting of the Guia Folar), the village’s popular Easter event held on Easter Sunday (March 31) at 4pm.
The biggest attraction of the event is the giant Folar Easter cake, which weighs over 250 kilos and is cut into slices which are handed out for free to everyone in attendance.
“It has become a parish tradition which welcomes more and more visitors and shows a side of our roots that is important to promote,” said Guia parish president Dinis Nascimento.
Last year’s event attracted around 3,000 visitors, a number that organisers hope to exceed this Easter.
Aside from the delicious Easter cake, visitors can also expect a handicraft fair and lots of live music and entertainment.
The event is held at the local sports pavilion and admission is free.
