Whether you’re into walking or running, this weekend offers a great opportunity to cross Lisbon’s famous Vasco da Gama bridge on foot. The Fifth RTP Meia-Maratona de Portugal, half marathon and Fifth EDP Mini-Maratona, fun run will get underway on Sunday, September 26, at 10.30am. Starting from the Vasco da Gama bridge, over the River Tejo, and proceeding through the streets of Lisbon, the competitive half marathon attracts athletes from all over the globe.
The 21km race finishes in front of the Pavilhão de Portugal at Parque das Nações and is televised on RTP. Last year’s half marathon was won by South African, Hendrick Ramala, in a time of 1.02:10, with Derartu Tula of Ethiopia being the first female athlete past the finishing line in 1.11:30. But if you’re not up to the longer distance, the eight kilometre fun run is equally rewarding, with all entrants who finish receiving a medal as well as a commemorative T-shirt.

The entry price is 30 euros per athlete for the half marathon and fun run, and registration can be made on-line until September 25.
