An Airbus 321-251NX operated by Jet 2 which was flying from Tenerife (Spain) to Birmingham (UK) had to make an emergency landing at Faro Airport on Thursday afternoon (February 22).
The decision was made after smoke was reportedly sighted inside the plane, which was carrying 220 passengers.
The plane landed safely at the airport at 4.40pm. A red alert situation was declared at the airport but deactivated shortly after the emergency landing was successful. Around 80 members of local firefighting, police and civil protection forces were called to the season.
This was the latest emergency landing at Faro Airport, which in December saw three Ryanair planes make emergency landings at the airport, all of which landed safely.
