Portuguese cyclist João Almeida secured second place in the overall classification of the 51st Tour of the Algarve.
Danish rider Jonas Vingegaard triumphed in the 51st Volta ao Algarve bicycle race on Sunday, securing victory in the final time trial, while Portuguese rider João Almeida (UAE Emirates) finished second place overall.
Vingegaard, a two-time winner of the Tour de France (2022 and 2023), was the fastest in the 19.6-kilometre time trial that began in Salir and concluded at the summit of Malhão, completing the course in 28.25 minutes. He outpaced his teammate, Belgian Wout van Aert, by 11 seconds, and Italian Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain Victorious) by 15 seconds.
In the overall classification, the 28-year-old Dane finished in first place, 15 seconds behind the Portuguese João Almeida, who completed the time trial in sixth position, and 24 seconds behind the Belgian Laurens de Plus (INEOS).
