Flamboyant Portuguese football coach José Mourinho is in hot water in UK for “abusive, insulting and improper remarks” that the Football Association claim he directed at TV cameramen earlier this month.
Mourinho has until the end of the week to respond to the FA’s charge. He could face a touchline ban, say reports which stress soccer bosses hired lip-readers and interpreters to work out what Mourinho said.
Says talksport.com “It is alleged Mourinho muttered, “fodas filhos de puta”, which translates to, “F**k off sons of b*****s”, in Portuguese”.
But talksport, and very possibly the FA, have got it wrong.
For a start there would have been a comma after ‘fodas’, which does not mean “f**k off” but simply “f**k” as in “damn and blast” or “for crying out loud”.
“Filhos de puta” may translate as ‘sons of whores’ (not bitches), but colloquially it’s an expression widely used in Portuguese and never intended to be taken literally.
Be all that as it may, Mourinho has apparently been in a “surly mood” for the last few weeks and may not be remaining much longer as the Man U coach.
