Portugal’s Syndicate of Journalists has denounced what it calls a “climate of pressures and restrictions” which it says have been imposed by the regional government on its members who are on the island, covering the wildfire story. Minority parties PAN and JPP have come out in support of journalists who they say “spend hours covering the situation so that people can stay informed”. Both parties repudiated the “attack on freedom of the press and information”.
