Judge rules EDP top brass were legally removed

Three and a half years after Judge Carlos Alexandre ordered the removal from office of the then EDP ‘top brass’ (António Mexia and Manso Neto), bail of a million euros each, and prohibited both men from leaving the country, an appeal judge has ruled that he was right. The appeal by Mexia and Neto that the decision was illegal has thus ‘fallen’, which, reports suggest, will have the ‘State’ sighing with relief, as it is widely understood the men were ready to sue for compensation. This was just another side issue of the wider EDP investigation that has been running for 12 years, without any charges having been brought. The case centres on the alleged benefiting of the power company through acts of corruption.
