June was “hottest month since records began”

In case anyone hadn’t noticed, a study by the European Commission’s Copernicus programme has confirmed that last month (June) was the hottest globally since records began. It may have been sweltering in Portugal, but it was also sweltering in parts of Canada, the United States, Mexico, Asia and eastern Australia – bringing with it all kinds of climate related consequences. The scientists warn that record breaking heat is likely to characterise 2023, exacerbated by man-made climate change and the more ‘natural’ weather phenomenon known as El Niño.
