Lagoa council “embargo” halts work at Pintadinho beach

An embargo lodged by Lagoa council has halted construction work at Ferragudo’s Praia do Pintadinho as it has “exceeded the dimensions allowed”.

The issue centres on a large hole that was dug up at the site – where a beach restaurant will be built -, and which “was not foreseen in the approved project”.

“As soon as the developer fills up the hole, work can start again,” José Alves Pinto from the mayor’s office told the Resident.

Pinto stressed that the council has been trying to fight the plans for decades, and while it still does not agree with the project, it has done everything it legally can to protect the area.

“However, we are visiting the site every day to make sure the construction work is abiding by all rules. If we find any irregularities, the works will be stopped again,” he said.

The new development which is being built at the site, Edd’s Beach, will be a new beachside complex featuring a restaurant, bar, pool and “private parking”.

Locals have expressed their outrage towards the project and defend that one of the “most stunning beaches will be made private” if parking near Pintadinho becomes paid for.

They also claim that the works have destroyed a plot of land that is part of the national ecological reserve (REN).

According to the notice board found at the site, the total covered area of the development will be 90.6sqm while the surrounding construction will be 259.3sqm.
