Lagoa’s ‘Sons do Atlântico’ world music festival will take place in Senhora da Rocha’s promontory between August 13 and 15, featuring a variety of performances from national and international bands and musicians.
On the festival’s opening day, the line-up includes Cape Verdean singer Dino D’Santiago – finalist of the ‘Operação Triunfo’ singing show and winner of multiple musical awards in his home country – as well as Spanish singer/guitarist Amparo Sanchéz, who used to head the popular Amparanoia band and will be presenting her new solo album ‘Espiritu del Sol’.
On Friday, August 14, the show kicks off with Chilean band Chico Trujillo, which merges cumbia, ska, reggae and rock into its own distinct style. On the same day, a quirky Portuguese band named Marafona will take the stage bringing a modern twist to the way musicians use traditional instruments like the ‘cavaquinho’ and Portuguese guitar.
Finally, the festival comes to a close on Saturday with concerts by Portugal’s celebrated Fado singer Camané, who will be celebrating 20 years since his first album was released, and Paulo Flores, one of Angola’s biggest musical stars.
Tickets cost €8 and can be purchased at the municipal auditorium, the São José Convent or online at ticketline.pt
The festival’s doors open at 6pm.
