An electrocardiograph, two pediatric scales, and an electric scalpel were delivered during a ceremony on November 13.
On November 13, Lagoa’s Rotary Club donated medical equipment to the local Health Centre. The donation of these much-needed instruments was marked during a ceremony attended by the Club’s President, Isabelle Weulersse, Vice President, Franco Pasotto, the Governor of the Rotary District 1960, Paulo Taveira de Sousa, and personalities such as the former president of ARS Algarve, Paulo Morgado, and the current president of the Algarve Local Health Unit, Thiago Botelho.
Lagoa’s Rotarians joined their Club President and Governor at Lagoa City Hall, where the mayor, Luís António Encarnação, and the vice president, Anabela Simão, officialised the donation and expressed their profound gratitude for the Rotary Club’s substantial gift.
The delegation then visited the health centre, where the doctors and nurses received the equipment – an electrocardiograph, two pediatric scales, and an electric scalpel – essential for the patient’s wellbeing and care, for which the team was extremely grateful.
Doctor Dário Perdigão, General Practitioner at Lagoa’s Health Centre, explained the importance of the electrocardiograph: “With this equipment, we can provide first aid to patients suspected of having a heart attack. Until now, we had to call INEM and waste time transporting patients to the hospital, and with this delay, lives could be lost. We are very grateful to the Rotarians of Lagoa”.
This initiative arose from a need identified by Lagoa’s Rotary Club President, Isabelle Weulersse, who, during consultations, heard her family doctor, Dr Pons, talk of the difficulties healthcare professionals faced due to the lack of essential medical resources.
Sensitised by the situation, Isabelle Weulersse mobilised members of the Lagoa Rotary Club to work with doctors and the Lagoa City Hall to identify the health centre’s specific needs and purchase the missing equipment.
During this process, Rotarians consulted local and international suppliers to ensure they got the best value for their money and considered various financing options. This effort ultimately paid off, reinforcing the club’s commitment to serving the community.
“It is an honour to help the Lagoa Health Centre. Rotarian principles involve serving and preparing for the future. We are happy to contribute to ensuring that this team has better working conditions”, said Isabelle Weulersse, adding that the club is already in dialogue with the municipality for new projects.
Paulo Taveira de Sousa, Governor of the Rotary District 1960, highlighted, “The magic of Rotary is not found in illusionist tricks or moments of pure fantasy. It lies in the extraordinary ability to transform reality through service, dedication, and commitment. It is the magic of making it happen, changing lives, and building a legacy of impact and meaning”, adding that “Every project, every initiative, and every act of solidarity is an opportunity to spread the magic of Rotary and weave a network of humanity and support that extends beyond geographical and cultural boundaries”.
