Lagos hosts classical music and opera concerts

The Summer Concerts feature a “Musical Piano Journey” performance on July 12 and “The Magic Flute” on July 13.

Lagos is hosting another edition of its Summer Concerts. This year, two classical music and opera concerts – “Musical Piano Journey” on July 12 and “The Magic Flute” on July 13. Both open-air concerts will be performed at 21h30 in front of Lagos City Hall at the Antigo Ciclo Preparatório.

On July 12, Lukas Geniušas from Lithuania, Alexei Kurbatov from Montenegro, Pedro Emanuel Pereira from Portugal, and Rem Urasin from Russia/Portugal will be the protagonists of “Musical Piano Journey“. The show will include music for two pianos, featuring pieces for four and eight hands by composers from Italy, France, Russia, Great Britain, Spain, the USA, and Portugal.

The concert will also include compositions by Portuguese composer Joly Braga Santos, whose 100th anniversary is being celebrated nationwide. The event will conclude with the final chorus of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, “Be embraced, all ye millions!” arranged for two pianos played by eight hands.

The following evening, on July 13, the Orquestra do Algarve invites Spanish conductor Pablo Urbina, along with Fernando Guimarães (tenor), Marta Martins (soprano), Christian Lujan (baritone), Patrícia Modesto (soprano), and Mariana de Sousa (mezzo-soprano) to perform a concert version of “The Magic Flute” opera.

Concert tickets cost €5, with the option to buy a package for both days for €8. Tickets are available at the Lagos Cultural Centre reception or through BOL.
