Lagos launches winter donation drive to help homeless

Lagos aims to help homeless face the winter

The municipal council of Lagos will run a donation campaign between November 4 and 29 to collect blankets, coats, and other warm clothing for homeless people in the borough.

The initiative, developed by NPISA Lagos (Homelessness Planning and Intervention Centre), aims to provide “comfort to people who are homeless,” giving them the means to “withstand the temperatures of the coming winter months.”

Donations of items such as blankets, sleeping bags, coats, scarves, hats, towels, and warm clothing can be dropped off at the Banco de Recursos Lagos Solidário (Lagos Solidarity Resource Bank). Located on Rua José Afonso, Lote 23, Cave B (former Water Store), the collection site will be open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 3pm to 5pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 12pm.

All collected items will be delivered to MAPS (Support Movement for AIDS) and the Fonte de Vida institute, both of which will provide the donated items to homeless people in need.

“Show your support by helping us help those in need,” the council urges, encouraging locals to spread the word and participate in the campaign.
