Lagos council is creating a working group focused on implementing a municipal tourist tax, which could generate around €1.5 million for the borough.
Mayoress Maria Joaquina Matos says that the expenses of welcoming such a high number of visitors keep increasing year after year and it’s only fair that tourists also help towards the costs of keeping the municipality in “tip-top shape”.
A region-wide tourist tax was approved by the Algarve municipality association in September.
