One of the latest Israeli hostages declared dead by captors Hamas was a Portuguese national, according to information provided by the Israeli Embassy in Lisbon. Yossi Sharabi, 53, was one of many Israelis able to claim Portuguese nationality under the special amnesty law created in 2015 for Sephardic Jewish heritage forced to flee the country as a result of the Inquisition. He is understood to have died in an airstrike by Israeli Defence Forces. Family members of hostages with Portuguese nationality were recently in Lisbon, appealing for all help possible in trying to win the release of their loved ones.
