Learning how to make local traditional sweets will be the main theme of the second round of workshops entitled ‘Sabores & Saberes de Odeleite’, the first of which will be held on Sunday, November 3 at Casa de Odeleite.
Starting at 10.30am, the workshop will teach participants how to make the Algarve’s beloved ‘fig stars’, a star-shaped sweet made with fig and stuffed with almonds.
The workshop will take place at the same time as Odeleite’s ‘Mercadinho na Aldeia’, a local fair selling regional products from handicraft to sweets, cheeses, jams, vegetables and much more.
The second workshop will be held closer to the Christmas season and will give people a chance to learn how to make several festive treats, including the popular ‘filhó’ – a flour and egg dough which is deep-fried and covered in sugar and cinnamon.
Organised by the local parish council and the Associação Social da Freguesia de Odeleite, the workshops aim to ensure that the village’s traditions are not lost.
The first round of workshops was held in April and taught people how to make artisanal soap bars, cheese and the art of basket weaving.
Anyone can sign up for the events by contacting Odeleite’s parish council.
