A British family was forced to flee their home after finding dozens of the world’s deadliest spiders hatching in a newly-purchased bunch of bananas.
The bananas came from Sainsburys – whose slogan for 2013 is “Live well for less”. The Taylor family are actually lucky to be living at all.
Brazilian wandering spiders are considered to be the most poisonous in the world. They were certainly enough to put the family right off bananas for a very long time.
After three days living in a hotel, the Taylors returned home. Sainsburys paid the bill for their spider extermination and the family’s hotel stay. Said a spokesman for the company:
“We’re very sorry and have apologised to Mr and Mrs Taylor. We do have rigorous controls on imported products at all stages – from harvesting to transportation – which is why this is so rare.”
