ANA airports authority has persisted is saying “Montijo is location we prefer”
With the ‘neverending story’ of where to site Lisbon’s new airport, the ICNF (institute for nature conservation and forestries) has rejected a proposal to ‘extend the term for the environmental impact study of Montijo airport’ (as a possible location for a new Lisbon terminal), on the basis that there exists “an alteration of the circumstances and environmental position”.
The alteration of circumstances will have much to do with the rejection of Montijo by almost every known entity other than ANA airports authority.
Environmentalists, birding enthusiasts, even civil engineers have had good reason to oppose the idea, which they have done for years. Most recently a commission set up specifically to decide which location would be best placed to serve the millions of visitors arriving by plane to the capital every year also said Montijo was not the place.
Ask media reports today, ‘is this finally an end to talk about Montijo?’ “ANA can act”, admits SIC, saying the company owned by French group VINCI technically has 10 days to ‘appeal’ – but this is just another ‘no’, in a long road of entities saying ‘no, for God’s sake no…’
