Lisbon fifth and Algarve ninth in digital nomads ranking
Lisbon and the Algarve have placed among the top 10 destinations for digital nomads in the world, according to the ‘Executive Nomad Index’ study by real estate company Savills.
The ranking is led by Dubai (1st) and Abu Dhabi (2nd) in the United Arab Emirates, followed by Málaga, Spain (3rd), Miami, USA (4th) and the Portuguese capital of Lisbon (5th). Next on the list are two more Spanish cities – Barcelona (6th) and Palma de Mallorca (7th) – trailed by Barbados (8th), the Algarve region (9th) and Saint Lucia (10th).

“All the locations studied offer a visa programme for digital nomads, or equivalent, or in the case of the USA and European countries, are part of a large economic bloc that allows free movement of people to live or work,” says Savills in the study, adding that “favourable weather throughout the year, a high quality of life, and an established prime residential real estate market” were among the common key factors in these destinations.
Miguel Lacerda, Lisbon Residential Director at Savills Portugal, highlighted that Lisbon has remained among the top five destinations for digital nomads since Savills launched its index in 2022.
“This is largely due to the high quality of life that Portugal offers compared to many of its peers, combined with strong performances in all other categories – although the rise in residential rental prices is becoming a pressure point,” he said.
“Connectivity, innovation, a diverse cultural scene, and good weather throughout the year are key factors that make Lisbon attractive for digital nomads. The capital is a strong option, particularly based on its authenticity, the potential of its professional talent, and an increasingly present international business community. These are crucial aspects for the lasting success of the city as a hub for digital nomads,” Lacerda added.
