Lisbon City Council (and Mayor) ‘could fall’

The tenuous grip that Lisbon mayor Carlos Moedas has on ‘power’ has been challenged following a story, in Expresso last week, suggesting the way in which he promoted councillors to top positions was not ‘legal’ (it did not follow official protocol). Moedas insists that everything done was above board, but he has ‘refused’ to show the legal arguments substantiating this to members of the opposition, who have now “admitted” that this could lead to his downfall. PS Socialists particularly are determined to take their complaints to the top, which, they say, implies possible possible loss of mandate, and/ or dissolution of the council. This is a battle for the New Year.
