Opening tonight (Thursday October 25) is the latest production by the Lisbon Players promising to have its audience laughing themselves silly.
“The Sitting Duck” – adapted from the French ‘farce’ written over a hundred years ago by Georges Feydeau – “romps through misunderstandings, confusion, betrayals, mistakes and intrigues”.
“Unabashedly morality-challenging” for the times (Paris at the end of the 19th century), the show has brought a degree of nostalgia for its director, British actress Celia Williams, who performed in a Portuguese production of the same farce for RTP 30 years ago.
In those days, the trilingual performer was in a cast full of well-known Portuguese actors. The production went on to be directed for television by the late much-admired Nicolau Breyner – and the memories of the fun in putting on the show will definitely have been rekindled as Williams and Co brought The Sitting Duck to life in the company’s Estrela Hall.
The Lisbon Players is a colourful troop of actors of multiple nationalities and ages, and their fame extends to being the capital’s longest-running theatrical company.
Starring Jamie Williams, Elizabeth Bochmann, António Andrade, Ruben Brandão, Rita Revez, Claudia Pereira, Luis Estarreja, Mick Greer, Nicki Bailey, Carlota Crespo, Rhyana Blakeley, Guilherme Bonito and Gaspar Queiroz, the Sitting Duck, promises to be yet another ‘triumph’.

Performances continue tomorrow evening and Saturday October 27 at 9pm, then resume for November 1, 2, 3, 8, 9 and 10 at the same time, with a matinee on November 4 at 4pm.
