It is no surprise that Lisbon is more expensive to live in than any other city or town in Portugal, but new data has shown that renting a house in the Portuguese capital is twice pricier than the national average.
The average rental price of a property per square metre in Lisbon was €9.62 in 2017, way above the national average of €4.39.
The nearby towns of Cascais and Oeiras follow as Portugal’s priciest places to rent a house, costing €8.06 and €7.84 per square metre respectively.
Next on the list is Porto (€6.77), with the Algarve (€4.96) also highlighted as being among the most expensive areas to rent a house.
The data was revealed by the national statistics institute (INE).
