Local charities join forces to support São Brás Bombeiros

Three local charities combined resources to kickstart an important project for the São Brás de Alportel firefighters, who are planning a new building extension to wash rescue vehicles under better and safer conditions, to reduce the risk of cross infection after use.

The three charities are Santa Bárbara Smile, The Angels Theatre Group and Helping Hands Algarve.

Lynda Fury, representing Santa Bárbara Smile, handed over €1,000 and The Angels Theatre Group, represented by Marion Griffiths, donated €1,500. The Helping Hands Algarve charity, represented by Christine and Richard Brice and Marj and Roger Marshall, contributed €2,000.

By a happy coincidence, the handing over of the donations could also be attended by Joy and Charles Wadd, who began the process of supporting this particular project some time ago, when they lived locally, and Joy was chairperson of Helping Hands Algarve. Having left Portugal a few months ago to live in UK, Joy and Charles were delighted to be in the Algarve visiting family when the donations took place.

The funds were received by Vítor Martins (Comandante), Custódia Reis (Presidente) and Alex Barcia (Vice Presidente, who acts as liaison between the charities and the Bombeiros). It is hoped the building of the facility will start in early September.
