Local groups help each other

The Algarveans Experimental Theatre Group has been working hard rehearsing for its latest production, the murder mystery thriller ‘Deadly Nightcap’ by Francis Durbridge.

But they couldn’t put on their shows without the help of the Bombeiros (firefighters) in Lagoa.

Now, you could be asking … how do the Bombeiros assist a local theatre group?

The answer lies in the fact that many of the rehearsals for the group’s shows take place in the conference centre which is situated above the Lagoa Bombeiros fire station.

“The room we use is large and full of light and centrally situated for all of our members,” said group chairman Melanie Winstanley.

“We happily make a donation to Bombeiros funds to use the room, so it is a win-win situation, especially as the room is virtually never used in the evenings.”

David Butler-Cole, Deadly Nightcap’s director, said: “It is not often I can say that my rehearsals are so hot that a fire siren goes off … but this does happen from time to time here in Lagoa.”
Red herrings, dodgy dealings and murder abound in this gripping whodunit.

Jack and Sarah Radford appear to be a happy and successful couple living in a large home in the country. However, Jack is secretly plotting to murder his wife and inherit everything.
He tries to convince Sarah that she is on the verge of a nervous breakdown and enlists the help of his girlfriend Anna to dispose of his wife. But all does not go to plan…

Enter Inspector Cliff Jordan, a man of insight and perception. But will his investigative skills become distracted? Almost everyone has a motive … But who is the real killer?

Performances take place at Lagoa Auditorium from June 17 to 19 at 8pm.

Tickets at €10 can be purchased via email at algarveansboxoffice@gmail.com, by calling 913 723 611 or in person at the theatre during their normal opening hours.
