Local lawyer wants Faro Airport renamed after aviation pioneer

Local lawyer Tomás Costa Nunes has officially suggested naming Faro Airport after Portuguese aviation pioneer Gago Coutinho.

The lawyer has presented his proposal to São Brás de Alportel council, saying he hopes to create a “movement to pay homage to the illustrious Algarvean’.

Although he acknowledges that Gago Coutinho was born in Lisbon, he says historians have proved he is descendant of a São Brás family.
