Loulé Municipal Council has announced a €4 million investment to provide basic sanitation in the small community of Vale Telheiro in São Sebastião.
The contract for the basic sanitation works was signed on Monday (November 27) between the council and the contractor, Lusosicó-Construções, S.A.
The works will allow the community to have access to the municipal water network across a 20km area spanning 200 properties and 800 people.
“It’s a lot of work, a lot of people involved, a significant investment, but this is the only way to carry out municipal responsibilities: working every day and serving the people,” said Loulé Mayor Vítor Aleixo.
Explains the municipal council, the Vale Telheiro community is mostly composed of dispersed houses with private water reservoirs or catchments.
The project involves the construction of a new reservoir in the Poço Geraldo area, along with a pumping station to ensure a year-round supply of quality drinking water to the residents.
Regarding the drainage of domestic wastewater, a gravity-based system will be implemented, eliminating the need for electrical energy consumption, the council says, adding that the local wastewater pipes will be connected to the existing network for proper treatment.
