The hospital will be located within the iconic Lusotur building and represents a €10 million investment
Private health group Lusíadas Saúde has announced that it will open a new hospital in Vilamoura in the second half of 2023.
Representing a €10 million investment, the hospital will be located within the iconic Lusotur building – owned by Vilamoura World and designed by architect Francisco Keil do Amaral – which will be renovated.
Around €4 million will be used to build or set up the hospital’s infrastructure while over €6 million will be invested in the purchase of “state-of-the-art equipment”.
The project was officially launched on Tuesday with the signing of a contract between Lusíadas Saúde and Vilamoura at a ceremony attended by Loulé mayor Vítor Aleixo.
In a statement to the press, Lusíadas Saúde says it hopes this hospital will “contribute not only to the economic and sustainable development of this region but also to the increase of healthcare services.
“This investment in a new hospital unit is yet another step in the materialisation of our group’s expansion and consolidation project. It is also proof of our commitment to the future of the health sector in Portugal,” says Lusíadas Saúde CEO, Vasco Antunes Pereira.
“Hospital Lusíadas Vilamoura will strengthen the offer of healthcare in the largest and most populated Algarve municipality and will contribute to the socio-economic development of the region in a lasting and sustainable way,” he adds.
Meanwhile, the CEO of Vilamoura World describes the hospital as an “important step in the strategy that we set at the start of our mandate and which aims to make Vilamoura the best destination in the Algarve to live, go on holiday and invest”.
Says João Brion Sanches: “Access to the best healthcare is fundamental for the residents of Vilamoura and everyone who chooses Vilamoura for their holiday. We are certain that this hospital will have a very positive impact on Vilamoura, complementing the services offered in the health sector and providing Vilamoura with another infrastructure which makes it a unique destination in the Algarve and the country.”
According to the private health group, the 1,700sqm hospital will “meet the demands and profiles” of the resident population and tourists and is being described as the first “Hospital FOR ALL” in Portugal – in other words, a hospital designed to be inclusive both in terms of “accessibility and employability”.
Hospital Lusíadas Vilamoura will also be “the first hospital in the south of Portugal dedicated exclusively to outpatient surgery” and the second of the Lusíadas Group following the opening of a hospital in Braga in 2020.
The hospital will work closely with the other Lusíadas health units in the Algarve – Hospital Lusíadas Albufeira, Clínica Lusíadas Faro and Clínica Lusíadas Forum Algarve and will be led by Pedro Oliveira, CEO of the group’s Algarve units.
The hospital will feature over 20 doctor’s surgeries, treatment and exam rooms, surgery rooms, a gastroenterology unit and imagology area equipped with specialised and state-of-the-art technological equipment, such as MRIs, CT scans, X-rays, mammography, ultrasonography and more.
