Luxury wines

The month of September marked 10 years since five winemakers – Quinta do Vallado, Niepoort, Quinta do Crasto, Quinta Vale D. Maria and Quinta do Vale Meão – joined forces under the name Douro Boys, with the aim of promoting overseas the Douro region and the wines produced there.

The celebrations took place at the Hotel Aquapura Douro Valley, on the south bank of the Douro river, which, alongside a dinner, included a masterclass to present each of the estates’ new wines (2012 whites and 2011 reds).

It was followed by an auction conducted by Peter Mansell, from Christie’s in London, to bid for two labels that were created exclusively for the occasion: the Douro Boys Cuvée 2011 – 750 magnums of a blend made from a selection of barrels from each one of the wine estates – and the Douro Boys Vintage Port 2011, considered one of the best years ever, also made from the estates’ most promising barrels, which resulted in an exceptional Port with just 250 magnums exclusively produced for this event.
