Madeira Socialists want early elections

Seizing on the corruption probe blasting a hole through Madeira’s PSD party, the archipelago’s Socialists are “demanding” the resignation of president of the regional government, Miguel Albuquerque and “calling for early elections”. Madeira has been ruled by PSD social democrats since 1978, thus this high-profile investigation, suggesting millions of euros in public money has been squandered, stands as an opportunity that should not be missed. According to Madeira’s PS leader Paulo Cafôfô, Albuquerque “has irreversibly and irretrievably lost the trust of the people of Madeira and Porto Santo” – and the PS want to try and ‘catch’ it, pronto.
