Major swoop on drug trafficking in Porto sees seven arrested, including former cop

PJ police arrested seven people this morning, including (according to an official statement) a former PSP agent alleged to be the “leader of one of the most important trafficking rings active in Portugal”. The men are all being kept in preventive custody ahead of initial questioning by a judge tomorrow. Investigators describe them as being part of “an organised criminal structure with branches in South America, in charge of importing, transporting and delivering illicit substances”, particularly cocaine. The group, considered dangerous, has been feared for its “violent methods and use of firearms”, says the PJ statement. Also seized during the various searches were 10 ‘top of the range vehicles’, four super-rapid speedboats, around €50,000 in cash, guns, bullets/ munitions and bullet-proof vests.
