Suspect reportedly snuck into woman’s house in Albufeira and attempted to rape her
PJ police have arrested a 38-year-old man suspected of trying to rape a 48-year-old woman in her own home in Albufeira in the early hours of Tuesday, February 4.
The victim reported the incident to authorities after the man allegedly snuck into her home without her knowledge and tried to “coerce her into sexual acts”, PJ police say in a statement to the press. During the ordeal, the woman sustained injuries trying to defend herself.
Further inquiries revealed that the suspect had previously entered the victim’s home earlier in 2024, though he was never identified at the time. This intrusion left the woman in a “state of anxiety”, particularly during nighttime hours, the statement adds.
Following extensive investigative efforts, authorities gathered substantial evidence leading to the suspect’s identification and arrest on February 5, the criminal police force says. The suspect was presented before judicial authorities for an initial court hearing, where he was placed in preventive detention. However, there is a possibility of this measure being substituted by house arrest.
The case is being handled by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, under the jurisdiction of the Department of Investigation and Penal Action in Albufeira.
