Man arrested for multiple crimes in Portimão

A 27-year-old man has been arrested by PSP police in Portimão and is being held in preventive custody for multiple crimes of theft and robbery, the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Faro has announced.

In a statement published on its website, the Public Prosecutor’s Office says the man is believed to have “forcibly removed a bag” from an 87-year-old woman at a bus stop in Portimão on December 17, 2023.

He is also being accused of having attempted to forcibly take a backpack with a computer from a 25-year-old man, having failed in this case because the victim resisted. On the same day, the man is believed to have broken the window of a car dealership, “entered the area dedicated to administrative services and attempted to start a vehicle’s ignition, being unable to because he “did not know how” to unlock the vehicle’s security system.

The suspect will now await trial in jail after being indicted for robbery, attempted robbery, and attempted qualified theft.
