The suspect was arraigned in Faro on Monday and was subject to a preventive detention order.
Faro’s Public Security Police (PSP) arrested a man, at the weekend, accused of committing dozens of crimes in Tavira and other cities in the Algarve.
In a statement, the authority reveals that having been informed that a theft was in progress inside a residence, they “immediately deployed a suitable police device to intercept the suspect”.
The PSP was able to locate and detain the man in the vicinity of the burgled residence, who was caught in possession of money and jewellery he had just stolen.
According to the note, the man was already indicated by the police as a suspect in several crimes against property, “not only in the city of Tavira but also in other cities in the eastern Algarve, making the practice of these crimes his way of life”.
