Victim was crossing railway on foot when hit by train
Traffic on the Algarve railway has been suspended this morning (October 24) after a man was fatally hit by a train in Marim, Olhão at around 7.45am.
The victim was reportedly crossing the railway on foot when he was hit by the train, a source from the Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command of the Algarve told Lusa news agency.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, including a total of 18 personnel from local firefighters, the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM), GNR police, and national infrastructure authority Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP), supported by seven vehicles.
No further information regarding the circumstances of the accident or the identity of the victim has been revealed so far.
