A European arrest warrant was issued by German authorities in March
A 22-year-old man wanted for the murder of his own mother in Germany was arrested on Tuesday night (April 29) at a restaurant in the Algarve town of Portimão.
Authorities took the man into custody after receiving a tipoff that he was dining at a local restaurant, PSP police say in a statement to the press.
According to police, the man attempted to flee upon realising he was being approached but was quickly intercepted and restrained on the spot.
A European arrest warrant (EAW) was issued for his arrest on March 27 by German authorities, PSP police add.
The man appeared before a judge at Évora’s Court of Appeal on Wednesday who ruled that he will await extradition to Germany in prison.
