Maritime police seize six foreign-flagged boats for illegal tourism activities in Algarve

Boats were operating in Ria Formosa

Maritime Police have seized six boats flying Polish and Norwegian flags deemed to have been “illegally carrying out maritime tourism activities” in Ria Formosa, according to the national maritime authority AMN.

In a statement, the authority says the vessels “were inspected and found to be in an irregular situation due to the lack of an inspection and licence to carry out maritime-tourism activities”.

They have been “seized as a precautionary measure.”

Members of the local Maritime Police Command in Olhão carried out the operation in conjunction with ASAE Food and Economic Safety Authority (ASAE) yesterday.

According to a statement released today, the boats’ owners have been notified and will only be able to return to maritime tourism activities after resolving their various licensing situations.
