Robbers make off with safe containing €3000
Masked men broke into a Faro old people’s home in the early hours of this morning, threatening night staff on duty at gunpoint.
The two female employees were told to “reveal where the safe was”, writes Jornal de Notícias. But neither knew.
According to the paper, the first man who climbed into Casa de Repouso, through a window left open, managed to find the safe himself – keeping both women close to him, and at gunpoint as he searched.
A second masked man then arrived, “breaking (through) the window of the front door”.
In possession of the safe (containing around €3,000, including personal items of elderly residents), both men made off.
At this point, the two women raised the alarm – with the case now in the hands of PJ judicial police, because it involved a firearm.
No-one was hurt – and the residents appear all to have slept through the incident, says JN, adding that there are CCTV cameras outside the building, but these may not be very helpful considering both men had their faces covered throughout.
For now, there is no further information. The robbers have not been located, says the paper.
