Medieval Days return to Castro Marim

Event || Silves’ Medieval Fair may have ended earlier this month, but the Middles Ages are still the theme of another major event in the Algarve’s summer calendar. The 17th edition of Castro Marim’s traditional ‘Medieval Days’ is scheduled to begin on Thursday (August 28) and run until Sunday (August 31), promising the “magical power of the Medieval era”.
The event will include horse-riding and archery tournaments, street performances, concerts and plays. Snake charmers and fire-swallowers will also be in evidence, so hold on to your skirts and children.
Adding to the atmosphere in the eastern Algarve town will be street merchants selling handicraft and old taverns offering medieval fare.
The event will be taking place in the town centre, as well as in the local castle and São Sebastião Fort.
Tickets cost €6 for visitors over the age of 12 and €3 for children aged 6-11 (children under five go free). There is also a ‘royal medieval banquet’ for €30 per person.
Opening at 5pm on Thursday and Saturday (August 28 and 30), at 6pm on Friday (August 29) and 4pm on Sunday (August 31), Medieval Days will close each night at midnight.
