Salir no Tempo takes visitors back to medieval times
The Algarve’s rich medieval history will be celebrated with another edition of ‘Salir no Tempo’, an event recreates the historical period when “Christians and Muslims contested the southernmost region of Portugal”.
Taking place between Friday and Sunday (July 19-21) in the village of Salir, Loulé, the event will begin every day at 7pm, with one-day tickets costing €3 and a three-day pass costing €5.
“More than just a medieval fair, this event aims to be a faithful recreation of the atmosphere during the period of Muslim occupation through various elements,” organisers say.
“A strategic point during the Reconquista (the Portuguese conquest of Algarve), when the transition from Muslim to Christian rule led to various displays of strength, Salir also experienced moments of continuous attempts to normalise daily life, in which the arts played an important role in society. This is the environment visitors will encounter during these days,” they add.
The entertainment programme will feature everything from live music and dance performances to fire breathers, falconry, medieval tournaments and historical reenactments.
