It’s a whole new concept in holidaying in the Algarve! Instead of renting a car, why not rent an E-Bike – an electric bicycle that takes the strain out of all those windy inclines?
This summer, Dutchman Martin van den Hoek opened Martin’s E-Bikes, based in Almancil and will soon open in Albufeira.
The initial idea is to rent quality bikes to visiting tourists, but there is also the option to buy – and in future, there will be all kinds of ancillary packages, like GPS systems showing charging stations, restaurants and other tourist attractions throughout the region.
“It is clear that the upcoming market for E-Bikes offers plenty of opportunities worldwide,” Martin said. “In Europe, a rising percentage of the turnover for bicycle fabricators comes from E-Bikes (35% so far). Within five years, we are hoping to set up a network in the Algarve and maybe with a location in the Alentejo.
“We work with high quality cycles, specially selected for cycling in the Algarve,” explains Martin. And always with a pick-up and delivery service,” he added.
The bikes are all backed by “rapid service in case of breakdown”, and they all have lights that run off separate batteries, even if the main battery is empty.
No matter your size or height the E-Bikes come in all sizes.
Martin said: “Our stand at the Better Living in Portugal (BLiP) exhibition recently received great feedback. We were overwhelmed by all the positive reactions and we have already delivered the first E-bikes to clients because of it.”
Martin’s E-Bikes is currently looking for new loading locations for the E-bikes, and would like to create partnerships with people able to provide these spaces.
“If you are able to provide a possible space, please get in touch,” concluded Martin.
