MEPs back EU-wide sex offenders register

A STUDY conducted on behalf of the Find Madeleine campaign revealed that 97 per cent of European Parliament members said that there should be an EU-wide sex offenders register.

The survey also shows that 95 per cent of EU Parliament members believe that police should treat serious crimes involving children in exactly the same way across Europe. Eighty-seven per cent said they would support an EU policy on child abduction cases and 84 per cent believe that the movement of sex offenders across Europe should be tracked and they should be obliged to register with local police.

Commenting on the study, Gerry McCann said: “We want to work with law enforcement agencies and non-governmental organisations to try and make Europe safer for all children”.
