Lagos has announced another “big party” to celebrate the town’s tradition of going swimming at midnight on August 29.
The ‘Banho 29’ (Bath 29) is based on local folklore that says that diving into the sea on August 29 “drives away demons” and is “equivalent to 29 baths”.
The tradition will be celebrated in Lagos (at Cais da Solaria and Jardim da Constituição) and Praia da Luz, with live music, traditional bathing suit competitions and many other activities planned.
