Miguel Albuquerque “asks to be heard” over corruption probe

Just like former prime minister António Costa, the former governor of Portugal’s autonomous region of Madeira is eager to ‘clear his name’ to continue with his political aspirations. Miguel Albuquerque “reiterated yesterday that he has asked to be heard in the process of investigation into suspicions of corruption on the archipelago, but up until now has not been notified”, explain reports. The situation is almost identical for António Costa. Miguel Albuquerque’s sense of urgency may be keener, in that Madeira goes to the polls in elections (prompted by the corruption probe) in May. He will be leading the PSD social democrat party which has been in power in the archipelago since 1976.
