To celebrate the sculpture’s inauguration and the democratic values it represents, Estúdio Onze is organising a pop-up exhibition on April 27.
Miguel Martins is presenting his latest art installation, «Zeca Afonso: A Tribute to Portuguese Freedom and Democracy», in a pop-up exhibition at Estúdio Onze in Faro on Saturday, April 27, between 15h00 and 17h00.
Meticulously crafted from recycled wood, leftover tiles, and old materials, the assemblage sculpture pays tribute to Portuguese singer and composer José Afonso, whose voice resonated like a hymn to freedom in Portugal.
The artwork assumes significant importance in the context of Portuguese democracy, marking 50 years of the Carnation Revolution. According to Estúdio 11, it aims to be «a living testimony of the convergence between sustainable art and history, inviting reflection on the importance of freedom, democracy and respect for the history that shaped Portugal».
Measuring 200×210 centimetres, «Zeca Afonso» is one of the artist’s largest pieces and incorporates a fusion of mixed techniques that bring to life the contours of the face of freedom, representing an eternal symbol of resistance and artistic expression.
